From December to February, it bears bell shaped, scented cream flowers, heavily speckled with red inside, which are followed by silky seedheads. Position in a sheltered, sunny spot and consider protecting the plant during a particularly cold spell of weather. Clematis cirrhosa var. purpurascens 'Freckles' is a recipient of the RHS AGM (Award of Garden Merit), for all round excellence.
